Windtree Therapeutics: The Biotech Investing in Real Estate, Cryptocurrency and Now Waste Management
My thoughts on this biotech turned conglomerate.
Anyone that knows my the story of my first ever investment (a story I may share later) knows I am a sucker for a waste management company so when Windtree (WINT) announced they were acquiring Titan Environment Solutions (TESI) this morning, I was immediately intrigued. WINT stock is up 44% as I type this but was up 100% early in the trading day.
The transaction will be funded with preferred stock and debt. I did not see a purchase price disclosed and although it says the “transaction is expected to produce a profitable business”, TESI has never been profitable. To give them some credit though, revenue’s have increased by roughly 50% each of the last two years.
At its core, WINT is a biotech company focusing on cardiovascular disease. I am not smart enough to tell you if any of their drugs will ever make it but judging by the long-term chart, I would say the market thinks not.
WINT has made a couple other interesting announcements over the last month. In their Q1 earnings, they announced a transaction in which provides them the right to buy a 436 unit multifamily residential property in Houston, TX.
Last week, they announced their latest plans for a cryptocurrency treasury policy. They did not disclose which currencies or any active investments. Crypto has ripped higher in recent weeks and Bitcoin looks like it wants to go higher.
